"A Statement of Complex relationship" is a series of photographs and one of the fragments of "LIKE A CHERRY ON TOP OF CAKE" multi-disciplinary project.
The series won second place of "The city as agent of change" - Mada Masr photo contest, Townhouse gallery, 2017.

It documents several arrangement produced by an ordinary woman (A house wife) to decorate the main entrance of her house. She chose the elements carefully from among objects she had collected over the years and from various events in her personal life such as weddings, the sebou', one of Egypt's oldest and most cherished celebrations where the family gathers a week after the birth of the baby to celebrate his/her coming to the world. She collected ceramic fragments, plastic, golden and silver ornaments, decorative chocolate boxes and artificial flowers. She created these assemblages by arranging these objects in an aesthetically pleasing way, made to be displayed at the main entrance of the house.

What piqued my curiosity is a question she posed while I was admiring her attractive compositions, remarking on their location, lighting and departure from traditional house ornaments.
Her question was: "Are these not unique creation? Is this not art?
She thought that the question she had asked was very simple. In reality, however, it was not a single simple question, but a set of very complex question that brought several other urgent and critical issues to mind.
